the difference??

alignment Apr 28, 2025

On my business page recently, I asked  about the difference between posture and alignment., and why that is important  as we approach midlife and beyond. There is a difference in that alignment has more to do with how our posture impacts our bones and joints over time.

As we progress through the years, how we have been holding our body will impact our balance and flexibility.  Injury,  as well as wear and tear  can cause our body to compensate for weaker/injured parts, thus disrupting our alignment. If this persists over time, we build in habits of misalignment, thus loading the weaker muscles to work they were not designed to do.

Why is the important? Our daily tasks require bending over to dress, lifting groceries and  household items, sitting in our car or travel for long periods of time. These are a few reasons that we want to stay limber, and flexible. Pain is not a comfortable companion and misalignment of muscles can cause increased pain over time.

 Important to know:

Good posture =shoulders over squared hips over knees, head gently sits on top with chin level to floor . This helps reduce muscle imbalances, overuse injuries and those annoying "aches and pains"

Walking, swimming ( to decrease jarring of joints) are two great ways to maintain strength and postural support in midlife. It is important  and much more comfortable to stay mobile as we take on life's adventures.
