Measuring Perfect?

Sep 04, 2025

As we start September, I think about the coming Fall Season....school begins, all things pumpkin spice, and soon, the Holidays. Along with all of these seasonal highlights, I also think about goals or those things we are "reaching for" in our  behavioral life. These things are very personal to each of us, but they compromise the  hopes, prayers and efforts we make toward mastery of activities and projects.

I have some thoughts on goal setting.  I understand having goals be specific, achievable measurable. (Using SMART goals) to help create a "better me" however, I am becoming more aware of how "perfect"  and mindset affect the outcome..

"Perfect" has more to do with extrinsic measures (test scores, salary, weight) with a "failure to meet" mindset that can trigger anxiety, procrastination, and eventually giving up

A mindful approach stems more from a growth mindset  and focus on direction. Any shortfall can be seen as a an area of opportunity  to revamp, revise and try again.

As I ponder these contrasting thoughts, I can see areas to grow into...not just in how I interact with others, but also how I address myself, in my own thoughts when I am reaching for a goal

It may be easier to allow grace for others, but not for self.

So How do you handle these two perspectives in your own life?

In my own mind, and in talking with a few ladies I know,

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Cras sed sapien quam. Sed dapibus est id enim facilisis, at posuere turpis adipiscing. Quisque sit amet dui dui.
